Candys Diary

22/12 -02 - 14/1 -03

22/12We woke up early in the morning, Candy is vomiting. She seems to be paralysed in her back and she falls over a couple of times. Magnus follows her outside in the garden where she can walk by herself, using the fence for support. She pees and pops and then she is back to normal. We thought she was perhaps just constipated.
3/1We were visiting our friends when suddenly Candy starts to act very strangely. She walks around in a circle, counter clockwise, staring absently in front of her. She staggers and sways but does not want to lie down. We went straight home and she walked right into the living room and laid down in the armchair. She usually sleeps in the living room so Magnus stay with her during the night.
4/1Candy seems to be doing better in the morning but she still circles counter clockwise and do not want to turn to the right. She eats her breakfast with good appetite as usual.
5/1 - 6/1Candy is getting better every day but we continue to stay with her during the night in the living room.
7/1In the morning Candy is seized with cramp for a couple of minutes and we call the veterinary. We got an appointment the same day with Mrs Signe Svindtland who examined her and we told her what had happened. She thought it could have been a seizure on December the 22:nd and possibly a cerebral haemorrhage on the 3:rd of January. She checks her reflex, listens to her heart and comments that Candy seems to be in very good condition for her age. She draws blood for some tests, we will receive answer the next day. We receive a receipt for some Stesolid in case she is seized with cramp again.
8/1Candy has two short seizures, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. They pass away quickly so we did not give her any medication. The veterinary Maria Petersén calls us and lets us know that all the tests were fine. We just have to wait and see if she gets any more seizures and if so call the vet again.
9/1Chili turned 6 months old today so we took some pictures of the dogs in the garden.
11/1Candy is quite cheerful and joins the other dogs for a short walk.
12/1Candy starts to breathe heavily in the evening.
13/1Candy still breathes heavily today but is otherwise quite cheerful and eats with good appetite.
14/1We call the vets to ask about Candy’s heavy breathing, they will call back in the afternoon but before they do, she is seized with cramp again. We call them back and they tell us to come in with her right away. She is very ill and Magnus has to carry her from the car. The vet Maria Petersén starts to examine her when she starts to “wake up”. Maria wants to x-ray her lungs and unfortunately they find several metastases in the lungs and fluid in the pleural sack. Maria belief she may have some kind of tumour in her brain, therefore the seizures. They let us think it over but we decide to end her pain.

We played around with a dummy and a tennis ball before her final rest.
